A menu concept for a fairy tale themed restaurant. This revised school project came with the text and the requirement that it be in the form of a two-page spread with a front and back cover with measuring pages of 8.5 x 11. In addition the use of photos were required somewhere in the design.

The crown icon was made with the idea of it being very simple line design where separate shapes made up one whole. It’s not the most innovative icon but I really liked how I managed to sneak in some dynamic attraction into it without it feeling like something that came out of a fun house. As an icon I didn’t really want to make it more complicated than it is now. I do regret that I couldn’t really make it a bit more complicated without making it feel overdone.
Although current menu trends lean toward the single or digital only menus, I didn’t have a choice in using a Bi-fold setup. This is a revamp of an older version of it from when I had first started designing. It was bad, very bad. This design features less photos than the original one and a much more simple and straight forward design. I couldn’t remember if the restaurant name was something we just made up or something we were given. Rory’s crown is both a nod to a fairy tale and a reference to the idea of “kings and kingdoms” which tend to be big themes in fairy tales. The colors red and white were both for simplicity and Rory’s red hair.
