A concept packaging design for a fictional protein powder. The designs, copy, marketing, and images were made as a team. The team consists of myself, Haley Tran, Gregory king, Huiqi Zou, and Nicolas Likulia. Here I will only show my contributed work and the final product images. No one had one specific job until the very end when we had to assemble our presentation for it. The product is a protein powder that is intended to be a shake when mixed with milk or water.
[note: i should put something here to give the viewer some visual relief and to split up the Images. while it's nice that I have all these images they're really over whelming even to me. On another note I have to figure out what to do for the empty space of the stacked logo. like we didn't make a different arrangement for the logo. we were like "yeah that looks good"]
The diagrams here reflect one of my first draft line drawings for the packaging (right) and the final line drawings for the packaging (left). We messed around quite a bit with different designs from a triangular shape to dissoluble pods. We settled for these non-dissoluble pods because we didn’t want to be the copycat (dissoluble protein pods already exist). In addition, the dissoluble pods would either have to remain in the container they came in or get shoved in another one.
Our main focus was on portability, we wanted to make sure that you could avoid having to lug an excessive amount of protein powder with you. The full pod is a recommended amount of protein powder for one day. The packaging of the pods is divided in two for the Pre-workout and post work out. This is also for people who drink protein shakes as meal replacements. This way they can choose to drink it all in one go or split it.
Our earlier designs were a little more innovative than functional. The helices from this draft ended up in our final designs but more subtle than here. The colors we chose were meant to invoke the idea of night and day. This is because we were also trying to appeal to a crowd outside of frequent gym goers. For non-exercise purposes one would ideally use a pod to replace a meal and gradually drink it throughout the day.
Our final product is a conglomeration of all our work. It was with pride that we presented our packaging design. A great lesson in collaborating with other designers. One of the biggest things we struggled with was the setting of the copy. We went through quite a few debates on where it would be the most effective. We knew that when we chose a textured gripping handle for the packaging that there would be some issues with a layout that was a bit nontraditional.
